Thunderbolts*: 5 embarrassing moments from The Sentry in Marvel Comics, ranked

Before you see Sentry in Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts*, see why, for all his immense power and strength, he's looked bad during more than a few fights.

The Sentry and The Void (whose real name is Robert “Bob” Reynolds) are among the most powerful beings in the world of Marvel Comics. He’s knocked out Wolverine (Wolverine No. 47), taken Thor to his limit (Marvel Comics Siege), and ripped Ares in half (Siege, again). However, for all of his accomplishments, he has some shameful moments that he's not proud of, and this article will point out the top five.

As the character makes his live-action debut in Thunderbolts*, let's take some time to look at the not-so-greatest hits from The Sentry.

5. Flying away

Comic book: Secret Invasion No. 2, Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Exodus No. 1

As intimidating as Sentry is, you can count on him to get scared and fly away. It happened when a Skrull got into his head during Secret Invasion and with Emma Frost in Dark Avengers /Uncanny X-Men: Exodus. It isn’t Bob’s fault. He has issues that leave him susceptible to mental attacks and tricks. Nevertheless, seeing him fly away in the middle of a fight isn’t a good look.

4. Just... Bob

Comic book: New Avengers No. 56

Here, The Hood’s villains found a way to depower Luke Cage's Avengers, but then the Sentry showed up. They didn’t think their weapon would work on him until he came crashing down. When the dust cleared, he was a normal guy in a superhero suit that was too big for him. As Piledriver said, “He’s a runt.”

Again, not his fault, but embarrassing, nonetheless. It doesn't help that it took him a while to get it together while the Avengers escaped.

3. Tricked by Bullseye

Comic book: Dark Avengers No. 15

Norman Osborn’s Avengers are the most untrustworthy team ever assembled, and that says a lot. However, Sentry and the Void seemed to have faith in his team. That's the only logical reason that either of his personalities believed Bullseye when he said he didn't kill his wife.

Bullseye is a murderer, and you thought that he wasn’t the cause of your wife's death? Come on, dude. You’re the most powerful being in the world, and you let that lunatic fool you. No excuses here.

2. Believing in Norman Osborn

Comic book: Dark Avengers No. 3 and 13

Unlike Bullseye, it’s understandable that you’d trust someone like Norman Osborn. They ooze charisma, and they make you want to believe in yourself. Notice this writer said someone who's “like” Norman Osborn and not the man himself.

Most people deserve a second chance, and Norman earned his by getting the kill shot that saved the world (even though he stole Deadpool’s information). However, he wasn’t far removed from being the Green Goblin. Plus, Norman’s speech wasn’t all that great. He essentially won Bob over with Five Guys.

1. Beat with his own move

Comic book: King in Black No. 1

One of the most humiliating ways to lose a fight is with your signature move. For Sentry, his finisher was ripping people in half. He did it to Carnage in New Avengers, and Loki and Ares in Siege. When the chips were down and the world needed him, the King in Black ripped the Golden God of Good like Sentry had done to so many people before him.
