There are plenty of things to be excited about as a Marvel fan, but one of the most exciting is undoubtedly Thunderbolts*. Although fans weren't initially sure what to make of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, the trailers have proven that it's something to be very, very excited about. What's more is that the response to the film via the initial test screenings was reportedly very positive.
Yelena Belova looks to lead a team of recognizable antiheroes-turned-heroes from the MCU movie series and it looks like it's going to be one of the most entertaining outings of the year. That remains very clear after the final trailer for the film has made its way online.
After a day of much anticipation about a potential Disney trailer drop, it was the third and final trailer of Thunderbolts* that made its presence felt.
The Thunderbolts are 'under pressure' to redeem themselves in the film's final trailer
By now, it's clear what Thunderbolts* is about. The titular team are, in many ways, considered to be Marvel's answer to the Suicide Squad, existing as a team of former villains and antiheroes put together by a higher power to take on threats that the universe's primary heroes aren't seemingly available to battle. But the trailers released for the movie have very much suggested that, like Amanda Waller in DC, Marvel's Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is not to be trusted.
Although this new trailer doesn't lean into that as much, it does place the focus on the idea of redemption and that Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) are the two driving that theme. Yelena is struggling under the weight of her past as a Red Room assassin, while also contending with the fact that her sister, her hero Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, was one of the greatest heroes the world has ever known as one of the original members of The Avengers. She hasn't gotten over Natasha's death in Avengers: Endgame and she's struggling to live up to her reputation, it seems. But, as Alexei points out, she has a hero within herself that is needed to defea The Void.
As the former Winter Soldier, Bucky is also adapting to a new life as a congressman, but with The Void now wreaking havoc on New York City and The Avengers disbanded, he tried to rally the superhuman individuals around him to step up to the plate. It's not just about redemption for him, but for all of them, as they have an opportunity to do some good.
The final Thunderbolts* trailer doesn't reveal much given that we know a lot about the movie's plot already, but its more emotional tone and presentation (set to Queen's iconic "Under Pressure") very much suggests that the MCU flick is going to be an emotional rollercoaster as well as a fun one.
Thunderbolts* arrives in movie theaters on May 2, 2025.
