Few franchises have stood the test of time quite like The Walking Dead Universe. Nearly three years after the end of the original series, the characters it introduced us to continue to dominate our screens. From the long-running spinoffs to the more recent offshoots, the TWD Universe is still a staple of the TV and pop-culture landscapes.

The first of those recent offshoots was The Walking Dead: Dead City, which brought back two long-standing cast members of the original series for a new adventure in the Big Apple. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reteamed as sworn enemies Maggie Rhee and Negan, as the two ventured into Manhattan to rescue Maggie's son. The six-episode season showcased how they struggled to work together and laid the groundwork for a more unique second season.

Fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the second season of Dead City especially as its US debut is imminent, but if you're planning on watching it in the UK, you might be disappointed by a recent update.

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 UK run won't air alongside its US run

Sky has confirmed that The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 will premiere in the UK on both Sky and NOW during the month of June. That's good news, as it confirms that the series' return has a release window and gives audiences an idea of when to expect it. Unfortunately, it also confirms that the show won't replicate the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which aired and streamed new episodes in the UK in the same weeks as it did in the US.

When Sky obtained the UK TV rights to The Walking Dead franchise last year, it aired the original series while also releasing the new spinoffs throughout the year, dropping one at a time until it was all caught up. When it was, viewers were able to watch The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 alongside their fellow TWD fans in the US, which understandably left us all thinking that subsequent seasons of any TWD Universe shows would do the same. After all, Sky has caught up to the US now; why wouldn't the next series' release match its US debut?

Now, it's only a month-long wait or so, as Dead City season 2 premieres in the US on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, May 4 (and runs for eight episodes), so it will likely still be airing new episodes when they begin releasing in the UK. However, as The Walking Dead franchise is one of the biggest of the past decade, viewers in the UK are still likely going to have to find ways to avoid spoilers from the new season on social media.

The second season of Dead City will see Maggie return to the streets of Manhattan, potentially to make up for her actions in the season 1 finale. In spite of Negan's heinous actions in the past, she clearly felt guilty about potentially swapping his life for Hershel's (and not fully revealing why she brought him to New York City in the first place). But the trailer suggests that the Negan she ends up crossing paths with will be a very different version, with potential shades to the evil villain that stole Maggie's husband Glenn from her.

Will there be a major altercation between the old foes, and what kind of repercussions could it have on the remainder of the season? We're ready to find out! We just hope that it arrives on UK screens earlier into the month of June.
