Comic book miniseries are important to the genre. They can tell a story that doesn’t need to be dragged out, or they can help highlight characters and bring them to new heights. This year, comic book companies like Marvel, DC, Dynamite Entertainment, and Image Comics produced amazing miniseries. Some of which were better than the ongoing titles.

With that in mind, allow us to put a spotlight on the ten best comic book miniseries of 2025. Each title on this list is creative, effectively shows us the greatness in the heroes and the deviousness in the villains, and tells inventive stories along the way.

Before we get into the top ten, however, let's start with some honorable mentions.

WRITER'S NOTE: This is not a ranked list.

  • Universal Monsters: Invisible Man (James Tynion IV): An amazing twist on a classic story.
  • Universal Monsters: The Mummy (Faith Erin Hicks): A beautiful love story that ends with tragedy, which you later learn is built on toxicity.
  • Red Before Black (Stephanie Phillips): Thelma and Louise for a new generation.

Mr. Terrific: Year One

  • Writer: Al Letson
  • Artists: Valentine De Landro and Edwin
  • Colors: Marco Lesko

It was a joy reading Mr. Terrific: Year One every month because I was given a new look into who Mr. Terrific is and why he became a superhero. Like most heroes, his origin was full of tragedy. Among the disheartening moments was when he tried to end it all. Thankfully, he didn’t - and that decision came about thanks to the intervention of an unlikely hero.

Doctor Strange of Asgard

  • Writer: Derek Landy
  • Artist: Carlos Magno
  • Colors: Espen Grundetjern

You take Doctor Strange, you add a cup of mystery, and an ounce of magic, and you get an incredible story - one that didn’t end without something coming from it. Stephen Strange’s journey as the Sorcerer Supreme of Asgard won’t conclude any time soon. A new series begins in December. I can’t wait to see him interact with more Asgardians, learn new magic, and solve mysteries.

Secret Six

  • Writer: Nicole Maines
  • Artist: Stephen Segovia
  • Colors: Rain Beredo

One of Nicole Maines’ shirts about the Secret Six team ends with the word “drama,” and it’s accurate. No one on this team liked each other except Jon Kent (Superman) and Dreamer, and Jay Nakamura and Jon. Even then, things at the end of this series got even more complicated for all of them. But that’s what made Secret Six amazing.

Secret Six has a ton of action, but the entertainment comes with watching this team attempt to get along. Try as they might, the six of them couldn’t agree on anything. It’s a miracle they survived and that things didn’t get worse. However, considering what Jay may do, things could go badly for the superhero community.

Shredder

  • Writer: Dan Watters
  • Artists: Sid Kotian and Michele Bandini
  • Colors: Marco Lesko

Writer Dan Watters is making Shredder a likable character in this series who still shouldn’t be cheered for. Oroku Saki is ruthless and uncaring, but that’s part of his charm. You can’t wait to see what evil thing he does next. Yes, he’s deplorable, but you still want him to win. Because, well, he's Shredder.

We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us

  • Writer: Matthew Rosenberg
  • Artist: Stefano Landini
  • Colors: Jason Wordie

We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us was one of the best spy stories I’ve ever read. It was full of action, witty comments, and all of the characters are fantastic. Even in a short amount of time, you learn who the major players are and their roles. This is the beginning of a brilliantly written and illustrated universe. Hopefully, Annalise will play a big part in it.

Fire and Ice: When Hell Freezes Over

  • Writer: Joanne Starer
  • Art by: Stephen Byrne
  • Colorist: Stephen Byrne

Fire and Ice: When Hell Freezes Over is easily the most fun series on this list. Fire and Ice are the stars, but the supporting cast is what got this on the list. They’re all unique characters with different personalities that will make you smile and sometimes facepalm. But within all of the jokes is a wonderful story about friendship.

Emma Frost: The White Queen No. 5

  • Writer: Amy Chu
  • Artist: Andrea DI Vito
  • Colors: Antonio Fabela

I had no expectations going into this series, and I left becoming a fan of writer Amy Chu. Throughout this miniseries, readers witness Emma Frost doing creative and hilarious things with her telepathy. And, most importantly, the story concluded brilliantly. I hope Amy Chu does more stories starring the White Queen during her Hellfire Club days.

I was a Fashion School Serial Killer

  • Writer: Doug Wagner
  • Artist: Daniel Hillyard
  • Colorist: Michelle Madsen

The title I Was A Fashion School Serial Killer will make you think this is all about violence and brutal murders. While there are plenty of creative kills in this story, there’s a deeper story in there about friendship and loyalty that no one may have expected. Nevertheless, it was on display in a beautifully brutal way.

Cable: Love and Chrome

  • Writer: David Pepose
  • Artist: Mike Henderson
  • Colors: Arif Prianto

Cable isn’t a character who you’d think would fall in love and risk everything for that person. Yet, writer David Pepose told a tale about this and made it believable. But it isn’t just techno-organic intimacy. Readers get the big guns, even bigger fight scenes, and time travel. You couldn’t ask for more from a comic book starring Cable.

Two-Face-1-(Rivas)

Two-Face

  • Writer: Christian Ward
  • Artist: Fábio Veras
  • Colors: Ivan Plascencia

This was more than a miniseries following Harvey Dent and his internal battle with Two-Face. Christian Ward made a new court system called the White Church that could have become a game-changer in Gotham City lore. It was like a courtroom drama with the threat of death instead of imprisonment.

I can’t leave this section without talking about Lake Cantwell. She was created in this series and did a lot of the heavy lifting for Harvey Dent throughout. You can tell she could become an essential character in Gotham City’s underworld if this series continued.

Zatanna

  • Writer: Jamal Campbell
  • Artist: Jamal Campbell
  • Colors: Jamal Campbell

You have to appreciate a creator who does it all and does it well. Jamal Campbell’s Zatanna story showed the determination of Zatanna when people she cares about are hurt or in trouble. You also get a good idea of how amazingly creative and powerful she is. However, Campbell makes sure you see that for all of Zatanna’s greatness, the powerful magician is stubborn and hates asking for help.

Gargoyles: Demona

  • Writer: Greg Weisman
  • Artist: Frank Paur
  • Colors: Robby Bevard

Fans of Gargoyles understand that Demona isn’t a good person, but they also know that there are moments when she has a heart. In this Dynamite Entertainment comic, you see both sides. More importantly, you may get a better understanding of her hatred for humans. It's a perfect story for the uninformed and those who know the lore. It helps that one of the co-creators of the characters, Greg Weisman, is writing this.

Sabretooth: The Dead Don't Talk

  • Writer: Frank Tieri
  • Art by: Michael Sta. Maria
  • Colorist: Dono Sanchez-Almara

If you want to know who Victor Creed is, this is the comic book you want. It isn’t a miniseries with only claws cutting through flesh (though there is a lot of that). You see plenty of depth from one of Marvel Comics’ most brutal killers. At one point, he even falls in love. But this isn’t shocking because writer Frank Tieri never misses when he’s writing Sabretooth.
