Once upon a time, Sony dreamed of launching an entire cinematic universe around multiple Spider-Man characters. Unfortunately, there was one problem with their plan: The wall-crawler himself couldn't make an appearance in any of these projects. While the friendly neighborhood hero swung across New York's skyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, villains like Venom and Morbius had the spotlight to themselves in a parallel reality. It was a... bold concept, to say the least. However, we all know how the story went.
The Sony Spider-Man Universe officially came to an end after the release of Venom: The Last Dance. While audiences were promised that the Lethal Protector's latest movie would be the first of many projects featuring Knull, those plans will never come to be. So, where does Sony go from here? Does the studio attempt to start over, a la DCU? Or does it attempt to do something different, trying to capitalize on their previous successes? Fortunately, the latter is the answer if a new report is anything to go by.
Sony is reportedly working on animated Venom and Spider-Women movies
To say the Spider-Verse movies have taken the world by storm would be an understatement. Both installments released so far have been met with critical and commercial success, and expectations are at an all-time high for the trilogy-capper—Beyond the Spider-Verse—to close out the saga in a spectacular fashion. But while Miles Morales' journey will come to an end in 2027, the animated universe that Sony crafted will live on.
Recently, it was announced that a Spider-Punk movie is officially in early development. Granted, it might be a while before we get to witness Hobbie Brown's upcoming adventure, especially given that the process to animate the character in Across the Spider-Verse took three years to develop. Of course, now that the character's visual identity has been established and the tools to bring him to life have been created, maybe the animation process will be easier. But while we wait to see Spider Punk's movie, two other characters might have their own projects.

According to reliable insider Daniel Richtman, Sony is developing an animated Spider-Women movie, along with an animated Venom theatrical film. Interestingly enough, both of these projects might give us a hint as to what will happen in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
So far, audiences have watched the debut of iconic characters like Spider-Gwen and Jessica Drew on the big screen. However, more members will definitely be needed to create a proper Spider-Women team-up. So, who else but Silk to fill that void? If Sony does have a plan in store for Cindy Moon, then chances are she could appear in Beyond the Spider-Verse before being the star of her own spin-off.
A similar scenario could be in store for the Lethal Protector. While iconic Spidey villains such as Kingpin and the Spot have already wreaked havoc in the different realities, Venom has yet to take matters into his own hands. In fact, audiences haven't even seen a single version of the symbiote Spider-Man across the multiverse, which seems odd and definitely premeditated. Perhaps Beyond the Spider-Verse will finally talk about what has happened with those versions of the wall-crawler that bonded with a symbiote.
Miles Morales' upcoming adventure won't only have the difficult task of concluding a critically acclaimed saga in a satisfying way, but it will also need to set up future spin-offs. With that in mind, perhaps it won't be long before audiences find out if a Spider-Women team-up and a Venom solo adventure are really in the cards or not. And if that's the case, let's hope the quality of these projects is on par with what has come before.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be released on June 25, 2027.
