2026 is finally upon us, which means we're one step closer to meeting our Doom... in the form of Robert Downey Jr, that is. Avengers: Doomsday is not only shaping up to be one of the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe projects ever made, but the most ambitious movie to date as well. As if that wasn't enough, we'll then witness the release of Avengers: Secret Wars—the epic culmination of the MCU's Multiverse Saga.
Doctor Doom, one of the most recognizable comic book antagonists ever created, will finally make his way to the big screen in this new era of live-action heroes and villains. Someone as menacing as the Ruler of Latveria needs a worthy opponent, and fortunately for us, he'll have plenty of opposition.
Earth's Mightiest Heroes will assemble for two more adventures in the near future, and this time they'll have more numbers on their side compared to the last time we saw them nearly seven years ago. The X-Men, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and even the entire forces of Atlantis are bound to make an appearance alongside the Avengers in the battles yet to come. But even when it would seem no one else would be able to join this party, a new report indicates otherwise.
Deadpool and Wolverine reportedly set for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars comeback
The Mutants are rumored to be at the forefront of the MCU's Phase 6, which is why it doesn't come as a surprise that two of the most popular Mutants ever might have a role to play in Avengers: Doomsday and its follow-up, Secret Wars. Yes, things are bound to get a little more violent than usual.

A recent report by Forbes attempts to answer the billion-dollar question of whether the billion-dollar-earning movie Deadpool & Wolverine was profitable for Disney. However, amidst the breakdown of costs and revenue, there's one very interesting claim in the article: "Deadpool and Wolverine are also expected to star in the MCU’s next two kid-friendly Avengers movies."
Interestingly enough, this isn't the first time we've ever heard of the iconic duo joining Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Ryan Reynolds, the actor behind Deadpool, teased his character's comeback in the anticipated crossover by posting a picture of an Avengers logo vandalized with red graffiti. Of course, fans interpreted this as a hint that we'll see more of Wade Wilson sooner rather than later. Furthermore, reliable insider Alex Perez claimed that both Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will be in Avengers: Doomsday, and they will even share the screen.
The further we head into the end of the MCU's Multiversal Phase, the more we'll learn about the dangers of incursions. So far, very few Marvel heroes have stepped away from their home world to venture into an alternate reality, but the Merc With A Mouth and Logan are among the lucky few. That's why it wouldn't be surprising to learn that their universe is on a collision course with the MCU after the events of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Given that variants from the Fox era of the X-Men are confirmed to make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, it will be interesting to see how Logan will react to meeting them. After all, he's the reason that many Mutants are dead in his home world. If rumors are to be believed and heroes from different universes are forced to face each other for the survival of their respective realities, it wouldn't be surprising to see Wolverine side with the X-Men. On the other hand, maybe Deadpool might finally live out his dream of joining the Avengers. As simple as that, the iconic duo could suddenly be at odds yet again.
Chances are that Deadpool and Wolverine's appearance in Avengers: Doomsday won't be officially announced prior to the movie's release. However, now that Disney finally owns the character rights for the X-Men, it would be a huge missed opportunity not to include the two heavy-hitters in the crossover to come. After all, it has even been reported that Marvel wants to keep Hugh Jackman's Logan around even after the events of Secret Wars, so it's clear the storyline of these characters is just starting.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
