The clock is ticking, and Doom is coming. Audiences worldwide have a date with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in less than a year. Avengers: Doomsday is around the corner, and it will be shortly followed by what's set to be the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover ever, Avengers: Secret Wars. Expectations are at an all-time high, and fans are eager to discover which of their favorite characters will make it to the big screen for these unprecedented cinematic events.
The initial cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday gave us just a small taste of what's to come, and yet it feels like the whole meal. The Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and many more heroes will join in the fight against Doom. As if that wasn't enough, Marvel announced that there's plenty of room left for others to make an appearance, and we might finally know what they're talking about. A new report reveals that the multiverse will be utilized to the fullest in the upcoming crossovers, and we couldn't be more excited.
Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars to introduce new, one-off heroes
According to reliable and renowned industry insider, Cryptic HD QUALITY, both Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will introduce new one-and-done heroes and villains who we know from comic book pages. After both movies air, we'll reportedly never see them ever again. So, how exactly is Marvel planning to introduce a batch of new characters without the movies feeling overcrowded? With the help of the multiverse, of course.
Incursions and parallel realities will play a huge role as we get closer to the end of the Multiverse Saga. We've even heard reports that Avengers: Doomsday will deal with the formation of Battleworld, which is an amalgamation of every Marvel universe condensed into one single place. If that turns out to be the case, then we could see a similar scenario to that of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Remember that whole sequence where Miles arrives at the headquarters of the Spider-Society? Well, he comes across iconic characters that audiences recognized from other media and who hadn't made their debut in the Spider-Verse saga yet.
The Spectacular Spider-Man, Web-slinger, Pter Ptarker, Lady Spider, Spider-Cat, and countless more appeared in a fantastic chase sequence that elevated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to a whole other level. However, the chances of seeing any of them again, let alone in a protagonistic role, are next to none. With that in mind, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume Marvel wants to accomplish something similar with Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
The MCU usually always has big plans in store for every major hero it introduces on the big screen. Granted, some of those plans don't come to fruition (as it happened with The Eternals), but it's not because the characters were planned to be a one-and-done from the very beginning. However, even if it's very rare for the studio to shine the spotlight on a big hero without intending to follow up on their story, it has happened before.
During the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, audiences witnessed the introduction and fallout of the Illuminati, a group formed by major, beloved characters. Black Bolt properly joined the MCU ranks, while the long-awaited casting of John Krasinski as Reed Richards finally came to be. However, every member of the Illuminati bit the dust as soon as Wanda showed up at the party. Now, we'll never see those specific iterations of these heroes ever again. With that in mind, we might be facing a similar scenario in both Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, except on a much bigger scale.
The Multiverse Saga has been at its best when it has allowed veteran MCU heroes (such as Tom Holland's Spider-Man) to be a part of unlikely team-ups. So it's great to know that such a pattern will continue as we head into the crossovers. Hopefully, Marvel doesn't overplay this card, and the result is exciting and well-executed rather than overwhelming.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
