A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars seemed to have a bright future in the video game department. In the span of two years, gamers saw the release of Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and both had different degrees of success. Furthermore, there were rumors that Ubisoft was working on the first-ever open-world Star Wars title, and a Knights of the Old Republic Remake was announced during a PlayStation showcase. Surely nothing could have gone wrong, right?
Unfortunately, Star Wars Outlaws was released to mixed-to-negative reactions, and nearly four years after the KOTOR announcement, we have yet to hear any updates on the game. To make matters worse, EA—the publisher behind many titles in the franchise—started making cuts across all of its divisions and scrapping many anticipated projects. Respawn's FPS Star Wars was axed, and other high-profile IPs such as Marvel suffered from cancellations.
With that in mind, fans felt uneasy about the future of a highly acclaimed Star Wars saga that has been around for nearly seven years now. Fortunately, we finally have an update on what's going on behind the scenes.
EA confirms Star Wars Jedi: 3 is still in development
Cal Kestis' journey has been one for the ages. He almost rebuilt the Jedi Order with the help of his team, came face to face with Darth Vader and lived to tell the story, and uncovered a way to reach Tanalorr—a planet free from the Empire's influence. As such, fans have been eager to learn how his trilogy will conclude, and it seems EA is keen on creating a fantastic finale.

During an interview with Variety, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele talked about the company's future. While the main focus is currently on ensuring that Battlefield 6 has a successful launch (which might prove to be the case, especially considering the reaction to the game's open beta), many other titles are coming our way over the following years. The Sims will get a new multiplayer installment, and Motive Studio's Iron Man is still being developed (despite the cancellation of Marvel's Black Panther).
Laura Miele also confirmed that Respawn is still working on Star Wars Jedi: 3, which is sure to ease some of the fanbase's worries. Unfortunately, we didn't get a hint on when we'll get to learn more about this highly anticipated adventure. However, given that there was a four-year gap between the first installment in Cal Kestis' saga and its follow-up, we could assume that the trilogy-capper will be coming in 2027, at the earliest. Hopefully, that would also indicate that next year we could finally start to get some reveal trailers and gameplay showcases.
Interestingly enough, Miele also stated that EA is working on "a few others that haven’t been announced yet". With that in mind, it's impossible not to feel hopeful about the future of yet another Star Wars franchise. After all, the success of Andor season 2 prompted many to return to the servers of Battlefront 2. In fact, the game had its all-time player peak in June 2025. Now, petitions for a follow-up have surfaced online, and they are gaining more traction.
EA might be gearing up for a big comeback set in a galaxy far, far away. While the fact that Star Wars Jedi: 3 is still in the works is more than exciting on its own, let's hope that the publisher is also working on other titles across the franchise. But the cherry on top? Cal Kestis might also appear in his own live-action Disney+ series if rumors are to be believed. So, with a bit of luck, it won't be long before these projects all come to fruition.
