Netflix has produced some larger-than-life shows over the course of its existence and Wednesday is among the biggest of them. The first season in particular experienced record-breaking levels of success as the Jenna Ortega-led series went onto become one of the streamer's most-watched shows of all time. It's no surprise that it was promptly renewed for a second season.

After the success of that one, a third is now on the way and it's making some major cast additions along the way. Hollywood legend and Stranger Things star Winona Ryder joins the cast of the Tim Burton show in the recurring role of Tabitha, becoming the most recent Hollywood heavyweight to appear on the show (alongside the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Joanna Lumley). But, among the many more cast additions announced, there is a DC star set to make waves in a mystery role.

Gotham Knights star Oscar Morgan joins Wednesday season 3 cast

Oscar Morgan has made the jump from the DC Universe to the weird and wonderful world of the Addams Family. The young actor is joining Wednesday season 3 in the role of Atticus. Although no further information about the character has been revealed, pop-culture fans are already pretty familiar with Morgan, whose career has been going from strength-to-strength in recent years.

The British actor has been a recurring presence on the small screen throughout the past decade but he's best-known to comic book fans for his role as Turner Hayes in The CW's Batman series Gotham Knights. The adoptive son of Bruce Wayne, Turner is framed for the murder of his father after The Dark Knight is found dead - with his secret identity as Gotham City's greatest hero exposed to the world. He then forms an unlikely bond with the city's next generation of villains - who are also framed for the murder - as the lines between good and evil blur, forcing them to work together to overcome the corrupt conspiracy at hand.

The show had quite the eventful run on The CW. A guaranteed hit if it had been released five years earlier, the show struggled due to the simple fact that the network was moving away from both superheroes and teen dramas. The mere existence of a show like this - featuring the death of Batman - received widespread criticism and the first trailer for the series was objectively not good. And yet, Gotham Knights perservered.

Once the series got over its admittedly shaky pilot episode, it found its footing pretty quickly as its core group of antiheroes-turned-heroes evolved into compelling leads. It made for some thrilling television as the "good" Turner clashed with the "villainous" Duela - who was known as The Joker's Daughter - and watching each of the young characters grow closer ensured the first season was a surprisingly endearing watch.

Oscar Morgan is no stranger to major franchises

In Gotham Knights, Oscar Morgan was a strong lead, showcasing Turner's struggles reconciling the fancy life he lived with the reality of who his adoptive father was, all while the character was trying to evade the law - and the real villains who were out to silence him. His commitment to the character's evolution also allowed us to see some unexpectedly thrilling moments when the character attempted to shed the "good boy" image to deal with the dangers of vigilantism - which led to the unexpectedly brilliant chemistry he shared with Duela.

The show premiered to strong viewership and it likely would have returned for a second season if The CW hadn't been sold to the new owners at Nexstar. There was only room for one superhero show the next season and the network ultimately chose Superman and Lois. But still, Gotham Knights enjoyed a genuinely entertaining run, with fans growing to love it by the end of its first season - simply because of how good it turned out to be.

Since the show's conclusion, Morgan has starred in the romantic drama Before We Forget (a.k.a. Duino) and he more recently appeared in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms as Valarr Targaryen. Between the DC Universe and the Game of Thrones Universe, that's two major franchises under his utility belt already; we can't wait to see him take on the world of Wednesday next.

He's already had a fantastic career, but something tells us that the best days are ahead of him.
