Here's what playtesters have to say about Marvel's Wolverine

A few lucky people had the chance to play Marvel's Wolverine, and this is what they have to say about Insomniac's upcoming game.

It's crazy to think that four years have gone by since PlayStation officially announced Marvel's Wolverine, and we haven't heard a word from it ever since. Granted, we know the video game is in safe hands, given that it's being developed by Insomniac Games—the same team that created the critically acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man saga. But even then, a new trailer (or any sort of announcement, for that matter) is way overdue at this point. Fortunately, all signs indicate that we'll finally see more from Logan's upcoming adventure soon.

A report suggests that a new trailer for Marvel's Wolverine is ready to go, and will either be released during a State of Play event rumored to take place at the end of September or at The Game Awards in December. Fortunately, this isn't the only indication we have about the game being near its final stages of development. It seems people have finally been playtesting the game, and they are impressed by what they have seen so far.

Playtesters claim that Marvel's Wolverine looks "fantastic"

As revealed by Tom Henderson, owner of Insider Gaming, the reason we've heard nothing about Marvel's Wolverine was due to the infamous hack of 2023 and the negative impact it had on Insomniac Games. Fortunately, the studio has recovered since then, and they have even been holding playtests for their highly anticipated title. The best part? It seems players are in for yet another amazing superhero experience:

"[The hack] obviously delayed the game as well, but from a few playtesters that I've been speaking to, they think that the game looks fantastic, so that's good news. And fingers crossed we get to see a release date in a couple of weeks time, which I'm looking forward to."

Of course, this statement likely refers to Marvel's Wolverine as a whole, including gameplay mechanics, level design, soundtrack, and all the bits and pieces that make it. However, the game is likely to be a graphical powerhouse and, quite literally, look fantastic too. After all, a leaked internal document from the Insomniac hack revealed that the developer strives to achieve the levels of photorealism reached by Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.

While the Marvel's Spider-Man saga is absolutely fantastic in all aspects, it isn't necessarily known for being graphically mesmerizing. Don't get me wrong: The franchise does tend to look great, and depending on the lighting, it can house amazing views. However, it won't cause the same level of impression as other modern titles such as Death Stranding 2. That being said, there are two very important factors to take into consideration.

First and foremost, both Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 were built on the technology used to create Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 back in 2018. Secondly, the wall-crawler moves across a huge open map, which is very technically demanding. However, this scenario isn't likely to occur in Marvel's Wolverine.

Granted, we know virtually nothing about Insomniac's upcoming adventure. However, every game should be tailored to the abilities of its main character, and Logan's movement wouldn't be ideal for an open world. Instead, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume that there will be semi-open levels, whose main focus is density and detail over size. Coupled with the fact that the game will be built from scratch with new technology, we might really have a worthy opponent to Hellblade II.

It would be quite shocking if 2025 went by and we learned nothing about Marvel's Wolverine from official sources. Hopefully, that means we aren't too far away from not only a gameplay reveal, but from a release window as well. With a bit of luck, the long wait will prove to be worth it.
