Wolverine and Spider-Man are considered two of the greatest comic book superheroes of all time. Both have a never-quit attitude, tragic pasts that drive them to be better, and a rogues gallery full of obsessive villains. They also both claim to be loners, but are on various teams (both members of the Avengers and Fantastic Four). Once upon a time, they even hated each other; Logan despised Peter’s “holier than thou” attitude, and Peter was disgusted by Logan’s willingness to kill.

Nevertheless, after years of being friends, they’ve learned to trust each other. That trust, however, is being tested in Marc Guggenheim’s Spider-Man and Wolverine

During the series' first issue, Spider-Man sees a video of his parents before they died. Peter knew they were spies who died under mysterious circumstances, but he didn’t know the details. According to the video he watched, Logan was part of the cause of their death. After learning that, Spidey attacked Logan and said he was going to kill him. That fight continues in Spider-Man & Wolverine No. 2.

The fight begins with Spider-Man putting a whooping on Wolverine. Logan is holding back and trying to explain that everything isn’t what it seems. They’ve already been played thanks to Mysterio’s gas. Plus, Logan mentions that something funky is going on; there's a reason they were brought together and that Peter was shown the footage of his parents’ deaths. Sadly, it didn’t matter. The fight continues with Logan getting assaulted until he goes feral and returns the beating he received.

Eventually, he calms down and tries to get his friend to listen to reason. Unfortunately, that fails, and Spidey starts attacking Wolverine again. Like before, Logan goes berserk. This time, however, he doesn’t stop. The issue ends with Wolverine stabbing Peter through his stomach with his claws and the attack looks fatal.

Let’s be honest about two things. First, and most importantly, the winner between these two depends on the writer and what the story needs. Either of them could win at any given time. Second, while things look bad, Spider-Man isn’t dead.

This isn’t the first time these two have fought, nor is it the first time that Logan stabbed Peter. It probably won’t be the last either. For all we know, it could happen again in this series. Logan probably intentionally missed important organs. If he didn’t, he likely will have rushed Spidey to the hospital after he his rage subsided.

Regardless of what we've seen, one thing is certain: Someone wants these two iconic heroes to fight and we won’t know who that is until later in this series. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to see who’s making our two heroes try and kill each other.
