Wiccan goes down Witches’ Road, Batman sees Jason Todd as the Dark Knight, and G.I. Joe is an action-packed issue that furthers a major storyline. All this and more of the best comic books from last week.

Last week, DC Comics dominated our best of the week with titles like Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman, and DC KO No. 2. This week, Marvel Comics came back with a vengeance, but DC still had some of the best titles this week.

On that note, let's dive into this week's list. Let's begin by going down, down, down the Witches' Road.

Wiccan: Witches' Road No. 1

  • Writer: Wyatt Kennedy
  • Artist: Andy Pereira
  • Colors: Bryan Valenza

Wiccan: Witches' Road was one of this writer’s most anticipated series of 2025, and it did not disappoint. The series explores Wiccan and Teddy (Hulkling) as they are injured after falling from space, and Wiccan somehow doesn’t have access to his magic. Thankfully, Wyatt Kennedy doesn’t waste time explaining why it happened and how he’ll get his abilities back. There’s also a nice surprise appearance in the end, and it ties into John Wick’s nickname.

Birds of Prey No. 28

  • Writer: Kelly Thompson
  • Artist: Sami Basri
  • Inker: Vicente Cifuentes
  • Colors: Adriano Lucas

Birds of Prey’s ending is another moment of “Don’t be sad that it ended, be happy that you got to experience it.” Kelly Thompson and the creative team took the Birds of Prey on a lot of adventures throughout this series, and things never got stale. Even during the last issue, there was no predictability. It was just as amazing as always.

Here’s hoping Kelly Thompson comes back to write these wonderful women (and John Constantine) again.

G.I. Joe No. 15

  • Writer: Joshua Williamson
  • Artist: Tom Reilly
  • Colors: Jordie Bellaire

If you’re a fan of ridiculous-looking characters and weapons, and bad 1990s-style villains, you’ll love this issue of G.I. Joe. Even if you don’t, Issue No. 15 furthers the story of the Energon universe well. And it looks like Clutch is going to get his Autobot buddy to save Duke

Ultimate X-Men No. 22

  • Writer: Peach Momoko
  • Artist: Peach Momoko
  • Colors: Peach Momoko

Peach Momoko’s Ultimate X-Men is a testament to her incomparable art and writing. And as the series comes to an end soon, she hasn’t stopped creating shocking and intense moments that fit into the theme of the story. Here’s hoping everyone who can read this series is doing so.

And seeing her do double duty for 22 issues and continue to have shocking and amazing moments was inspiring.

Binary No. 3

  • Writer: Stephanie Phillips
  • Artists: Giada Belviso
  • Colors: Rache, Rosenberg

The conclusion to this mini-series was perfect. Readers saw a group of people stand up to a much more powerful person and were prepared to give up their lives despite being overpowered. We also witnessed Carol Danvers be the hero she’s known to be.

You couldn’t have asked for more. Well, except for this title to go on longer. I’d love to see a prequel of Carol Danvers between years 1 and 10.

DC K.O.: Superman vs Captain Atom No. 1

  • Writer: Joshua Williamson
  • Artist: Sean Izaakse
  • Colors: Trish Mulvihill and Hi-Fi

It would have been easy to have Superman dominate or Captain Atom win with just Green Kryptonite. Instead of doing that, Joshua Williamson made both competitors look like strategic fighters. Hopefully, this is a trend that will continue throughout the tournament. Also, you gotta love how the rounds ended like a video game.

DC K.O. Kinghtfight No. 2

  • Writer: Joshua Williamson
  • Artist: Dan Mora
  • Colors: Tríona Farrell

Batman escapes his previous fight by almost killing a version of Dick Grayson that became Batman, only to be transported to a grim reality where Jason Todd has taken the Dark Knight mantle. It’s a version of Gotham City that’s so dark that it looks like Frank Miller’s Sin City, complete with hints of red.

Again, Bruce has to fight a version of someone he considers his son. The consequences of this reality tour will be far-reaching when things go back to normal. He won’t forget having to fight the people he loves the most.

Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League No. 5

  • Writer: Greg Rucka
  • Artists: Nicola Scott
  • Colors: Annette Kwok

Everything about this issue was fun. Even though you knew that the villains were going to make it out of the Justice League Watchtower, seeing them do it was something else because it went according to plan until the end. Even then, they found a way to make it work despite almost being caught. I can’t wait to see how this ends.

Batman No. 3

  • Writer: Matt Fraction
  • Artist: Jorge Jiménez
  • Colors: Tomeu Morey

Matt Fraction is a writer who can create a comic book issue of mostly dialogue and backstory without it ever being boring. Jorge Jiménez added plenty of fantastic art that helped make the story smooth and interesting. It’s easy to see why this run of Batman has been a top seller since it debuted. The most recent issue is just another example of that!

The Blue Falcon and Dynomutt No. 4

  • Writer: Jimmy Palmiotti
  • Artist: Pasquale Qualano
  • Colors: Jorge Sutil

This issue was a great example of what the team of Blue Falcon and Dynomutt will be. It doesn’t look like BF’s K-9 sidekick will be as goofy as the cartoon, but that’s a good thing. From all of the adult content, you can clearly see this will be a comic book for mature readers. Thankfully, that doesn't mean Dynomutt will be without humor.
