If you’re a comic book fan, you should always pay attention to superhero movies and shows. It can be a hassle to follow the vast amount of projects that are released, but things that happen outside of comics can affect the source material. For example, late last year, it was confirmed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially exists in the same multiverse as the comic book multiverse (read TVA by Katharyn Blair for that story).
Besides things like continuity, the popularity of characters can lead to them getting a push in comics. Look no further than what Agatha All Along did for Wiccan, who, after decades of being in Marvel Comics, is getting his first solo series.
Marvel Comics announced that Wiccan: Down the Witches’ Road will be a five-part miniseries with writer Wyatt Kennedy (Image Comics’ Nights) and new artist Andy Pereira. Together, they will take Billy Kaplan on a journey to save his husband (and soon-to-be former emperor of the Kree/Skrull Alliance), Teddy Altman (Hulkling) from injuries he received during the Marvel Comics’ event, Imperial.
"Obviously getting the chance to write one of Marvel's best couples is a joy, but I'm really excited to dive deep into who Billy is as a single individual and explore what his title as Wiccan really means to both himself and the greater Marvel universe."Wyatt Kennedy
Unfortunately, everyone who knows about magic understands a big rule. Using magic comes with a cost. As Marvel put it, “With Hulkling grievously wounded, it’s up to Wiccan to save the day—but what lengths will he be willing to go to do so?” I can answer that question. Wiccan will go beyond the ends of the Earth and through Hell to make sure the love of his life survives.
"I’m very happy that my debut is also Wiccan’s debut as a solo star, and the whole team and I are putting a lot of effort into making it the best it could be!"Andy Pereira
It’s about time Wiccan got his first series. He’s been part of some major story events since he debuted, and helped save the world with Doctor Strange and his mother, the Scarlet Witch. That’s on top of him protecting the universe with Hulkling (this happened in Empyre). Sure, he’s been on a couple of Young Avengers rosters and teamed up with the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, but it’s not the same as having a solo series.
Wyatt Kennedy says that there will be more to this than what we see on the surface. He's going to introduce a new villain to get in the way of Billy achieving his goal. Kennedy also said that Wiccan will encounter a “surprising” ally along the way. The easy guess is that it will be Agatha Harkness since they have a relationship in the MCU and their chemistry was flawless. However, I would love to see a version of Death that resembles Aubrey Plaza’s character in Agatha All Along.
If you love magic, you’ll want to pick Wiccan up when it debuts. This will be the beginning of a new era for Billy, who’s overdue for a power upgrade and for him to come into his own. And, if it goes well, a miniseries can turn into an ongoing one.
Wiccan: Down The Witches' Road is scheduled to be published on December 3, 2025. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow’s social media sites, Bluesky, Instagram, and Twitter for more on that and other Marvel comic book, TV, and movie news, opinions, and rumors as they come out.
