Wonder Woman and the Amazons' destiny is to be exterminated by one of their own

Tom King’s Wonder Woman shows the death of the Amazons, all three Wonder Girls, and Wonder Woman herself, and it can be traced back to the first issue of this run.

Tom King has a way of bringing things back to the beginning of his stories. For example, in the first issue of his Batman run, one of his two new characters (Gotham and Gotham Girl) played a part in his last arc, Batman: City of Bane. It might have been difficult to remember how they impacted everything if you were reading that series monthly, but it always comes together nicely. The same could be said for Emelie during King's current Wonder Woman series because she causes the death of the Amazons.

The first issue of the new Wonder Woman ongoing series began with an Amazon named Emelie being sexually assaulted. According to the media, patrons at the bar then attacked her, and she killed everyone who fought her. This led to the American Government outlawing Amazons. If you were of Themyscira or had their blood, you were ordered to leave the country, forced to leave, imprisoned, or killed. It didn’t matter if you were in America legally or had nothing to do with the alleged crime mentioned, you had to go (this may sound eerily familiar to things happening in the U.S. today).

For the rest of the series (that’s still ongoing), Wonder Woman's mission was to take down the secret society run by a man known as Soverign. Everything that’s happening is told by Trinity (the daughter of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor), from the future when Trinity is the only living Amazon. The rest are killed during the Wonder War. This can all be traced back to issue No.1 and Emlie. You see, Emelie gives birth to a daughter named Lyssa, who causes the extinction of the Amazons.

Wonder Woman No.19 shows a battlefield of dead Amazons. Among the deceased are Yara Flor, Donna Troy, Cassie Sandsmark, and Trinity’s mother, Diana Prince. We don’t know what started the Wonder War. All that’s confirmed is that a dagger created by Diana once had the Amazon crest and now bears America's. It also appears to be the murder weapon that killed Wonder Woman.

Whether or not Emelie is directly responsible for the death of the Amazons remains to be seen. All we know is, according to Sovereign, Lyssa is the instrument of their (America's secret society's) revenge. Does that mean Emelie purposely trained her daughter to kill her people? Not at all. Lyssa and Emelie could have been kidnapped and brainwashed into being a force during the final battle on Themyscira. However, it wouldn’t be unheard of if Emelie, bitter about how she was treated and not being saved, taught her daughter to kill her sisters in arms.
