Marvel Animation's X-Men ‘97 is back for its second season and it has wasted little time in making an impact. In the three-episode season 2 premiere, Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants were in the past, present, and future. The first episode showed Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Morph, and Wolverine being rescued by Forge in the distant future. But not before they saved the lives of the people of this time and helped mold Nathan Summers to one day become the time-traveling hero named Cable.
In the present, Cable recruited his X-Force roster to stop Apocalypse from igniting his war of mutants against humans. The team consisted of Archangel, Psylocke, Sunspot, and Jubilee (who was the MVP of this episode). X-Force may not have prevented the war, but they did rescue kidnapped mutant kids and teenagers who were illegally detained by the U.S. Government, thanks to X-Factor (Havoc, Polaris, Strong Guy, Multiple Man, and Wolfsbane).
Back in the past, Charles Xavier, Beast, Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Magneto were in Egypt before En Sabah Nur became Apocalypse. Magneto was attempting to prevent this by showing Sabah Nur a "kinder" way of doing things. Sadly, it didn’t work out (more on that later). Luckily, before things could get dire, they were saved by Bishop, who brought them back to the future (and without Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox!).

What to expect in the next episodes of X-Men ‘97
Both time-traveling episodes of X-Men '97 season 2 showed that the interference of the X-Men affected their present. Had Magneto not attempted to mold En Sabah Nur into someone different, he may not have felt betrayed and become Apocalypse. On a positive note, back in the future, Cyclops and Jean’s time with Nathan definitely influenced him into becoming Cable. You could tell this by the look they gave Nate when he grabbed a giant gun and started shooting it.
I truly believe episode 4 will reveal how the X-Men caused the rise of Apocalypse in the past and his dominance in the future. Apocalypse of the future saying that he's going back to the 1990s when the X-Men were at their most vulnerable helps my theory. It shows that he connected the X-Men of the 1990s to the ones he met in Egypt. Remembering when the X-Men were gone gives him a major advantage, and likely why he's been one step ahead of Cable and X-Force.
One more thing to look forward to is a new group of Horsemen. The season 1 finale hinted at Gambit becoming Death, but that leaves the Horsemen Famine, Pestilence, and War remaining (the previous War, Abraham Kieros, was killed by Archangel in season 2 episode 2). Does this mean Polaris, Sunfire, and Gazer are up next? They were Horsemen of Apocalypse in the comics, and it would make sense if this roster were used in X-Men '97.
