On the previous episode of Marvel Animation's X-Men ‘97, Gambit returned as an enemy of the X-Men. But unlike the source material, Remy LeBeau's mind was inhabited by Apocalypse. Thanks to Charles Xavier’s telepathy and Rogue’s love, Gambit was saved. Well, partially saved because the episode ends with Remy alive, but in a coma. To make things worse, En Sabah Nur is still in Gambit’s mind and won’t be held in captivity for too long.

This was a brilliant penultimate episode, and it has set the stage well for the upcoming season 2 finale of the Disney Plus series. Speaking of which, here's how - and when - you can watch it to see for yourself how the second season comes to a close.

What to expect in the season 2 finale of X-Men ‘97

Well, X-fans: We've made it it. This is the season 2 finale of X-Men '97, so we’re going to see something special. If I had to guess, things for the X-Men are about to go from bad to worse because Onslaught may be coming. And if you thought Apocalypse was dangerous, wait until you meet this villain. For reference, it took almost every great hero on Earth to stop him.

The X-Men have already been through a lot this season - from the rise of Apocalypse to the return of Gambit - so it's not too crazy to expect the show to up the ante in its season 2 finale.

If you’re a comic book fan, you know who Onslaught is. If you don’t, do yourself a favor and don’t look it up. The surprise reveal will be worth the wait. Luckily, the wait won’t be too long since season 3 of X-Men ‘97 returns in 2027, and season 4 is also coming in 2028. That means Marvel Studios Animation must have something incredible and jaw-dropping lined up for the future of Marvel's Mightiest Mutants. This is just the beginning for the X-Men, so make sure you stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out what is next for the heroes.
