Everyone's favorite webslinger is slinging his way back onto our screens for yet another animated series. Spider-Man's history with animated shows is nothing short of spectacular and this one will undoubtedly be no different. Although, there is one significant difference about this one: It's produced by Marvel Studios (via its Marvel Animation banner).
Set in a world adjacent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man imagines what Peter Parker's life as the wall-crawler would be like if he crossed paths with Norman Osborn instead of Tony Stark. In doing so, it actually gets to show us some parts of his origin story - which the MCU sidestepped when introducing Tom Holland's version of the character in the live-action films.
It's going to be an adventure to remember for sure, but the show's approach to the story isn't the only unique thing about it, as it has a pretty unusual release format. If you're planning on watching it, here's what you need to know.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode release guide
Beginning Wednesday, January 29 2025, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will stream new episodes on Disney Plus every Wednesday at 12:00 a.m. PT and 3:00 a.m. ET (if you're watching in the UK, that's 8:00 a.m. GMT) and its first season will consist of 10 episodes. The release time mirrors earlier Marvel projects, and it is also the current approach to all Marvel Animation titles, mimicking that of X-Men '97 and What If...?.
However, that's where the similarities in the release schedule stop. While the series will kick off with the first two episodes, three new episodes will come the week after that. Three more will drop the week after that, before we go back to two for the final week of its release on February 19.
You can see the full episode release schedule below:
Episode | Release date |
---|---|
Episode 1 | January 29 |
Episode 2 | January 29 |
Episode 3 | February 5 |
Episode 4 | February 5 |
Episode 5 | February 5 |
Episode 6 | February 12 |
Episode 7 | February 12 |
Episode 8 | February 12 |
Episode 9 | February 19 |
Episode 10 | February 19 |
With that in mind, each of the show's four weeks of release will have either two or three episodes debuting at a time, and that is a huge win for fans craving more of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
The release format may have to do with Daredevil: Born Again
There is no doubt about it that this is Marvel's most unusual release format yet. However, there might be a reason for that. By releasing two to three episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man at a time, Marvel ensures that the animated series won't clash with upcoming live-action series Daredevil: Born Again, which premieres on March 4.
Now, fans will undoubtedly know that the series is set to debut then and releasing new episodes of Spider-Man probably won't distract from that but it could impact the animated series' release. Fans have been waiting years to see Charlie Cox back on our screens as The Man Without Fear, and now that the upcoming Disney Plus series is a revival/sequel series to the critically-acclaimed Netflix show, anticipation is even higher for it.
Running Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man out across four weeks wraps its run up a lot quicker and leaves about a week or two between it and Daredevil: Born Again's season premiere. It also ensures that the two Marvel shows get their own spotlight without one overshadowing the other.
The good news is that we know Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will return for more episodes after its first season as Marvel has already renewed it for two more seasons. So, yes, Spidey's debut run might be short, but he will be back in the future - and that's a very good thing!
