First Look: Journey To Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Shattered Empire #1
By Nick Tylwalk
Despite a title that is literally too long for some of our title fields here at Bam Smack Pow, there’s a lot to get excited about when it comes to Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Shattered Empire #1. For starters, it’s the first Marvel Star Wars comic set after Return of the Jedi, with the others released so far harvesting the fertile but finite ground between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.

It’s also got a great creative team in the form of writer Greg Rucka and artist Marco Checchetto, along with cover artist Phil Noto. Add in the sense that Marvel’s Star Wars comics in general have been firing on all cylinders almost all the time and the fact that this four-issue limited series leads into the first new Star Wars flick in years and you’ve got all the reason you need to check it out.
As for what it’s about, the Empire has been beaten but not vanquished after the Battle of Endor. In the days that follow, the Empire is set to show that it’s still the foremost power in the galaxy, and it sounds like A-Wing pilot Shara Bey might find that out the hard way.
Consider it a deep dive into an as yet uncharted portion of the Star Wars ocean, one that will arrive in comic shops and on digital on September 2. Until then, we’ve got a first look right here, and you can practice saying the entire name of the book: Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Shattered Empire #1. Fourteen syllables!
