Legends Of Tomorrow Preview/Synopsis – S01E04 – “White Knights”
By Steve Lam
“Blood Ties” — the third episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow had some pretty compelling character development. We had Ray facing his fears of being powerless, Leonard trying to change his past, and Sara facing her bloodlust. The team was broken into three small groups which allowed the overall episode to tell some great emotional stories.

Ray has always been the optimist of the team. Because of a small little incident while performing a procedure on Kendra, he lost that confidence. It took Martin’s concocting of a fake story to rebuild Ray back up to the hero he was always meant to be.
Leonard has always been seen as a pretty cold sarcastic guy, but after “Blood Ties” we have some serious sympathy for the dude. How can we not see a little boy every time we look at him now? The heartstrings are further pulled with Leonard’s attempt at protecting his family by preventing his father from going to prison. It’s even more heartbreaking when all that work goes down the drain and your actions have no effect on the timeline.
And finally, Sara’s bloodlust resurfaces from her resurrection. Who better to guide her than Rip — someone who wouldn’t even kill Vandal Savage when given the chance. Sara wants to kill and Rip can’t. The juxtaposition of their problems gave the two a great opportunity to bond as teammates.
What surprises do the writers have for us this week? During the final few moments of “Blood Ties“, Rip plotted a course for 1986 after Gideon’s advisement. It seems that this week we’ll be getting some great 1980s fun and nostalgia. Here’s the official synopsis for “White Knights”:
"STEPHANIE CORNELIUSSEN (“MR. ROBOT”) GUEST STARS AS VALENTINA VOSTOCK – When Vandal Savage (guest star Casper Crump) retreats behind the Iron Curtain in the early 1980s, a string of nuclear scientists begins to mysteriously disappear. The team follows Vandal’s trail straight into the heart of the Soviet Union in an attempt to find his next target. Ray (Brandon Routh) tries to bond with a beautiful Soviet scientist, Valentina Vostock (guest star Stephanie Corneliussen), in the hopes of finding out Vandal’s next move. When Valentina rejects him, it’s Snart (Wentworth Miller) to the rescue. Stein (Victor Garber) pushes Jax (Franz Drameh) to be better, which frustrates Jax and ultimately threatens the Firestorm matrix. Rip (Arthur Darvill) asks Sara (Caity Lotz) to train Kendra (Ciara Renée)."
