SDCC 2014: Marvel Studios Panel Confirms Josh Brolin As Thanos, Guardians 2
By Nick Tylwalk
Along with some apparently incredible Avengers: Age of Ultron footage that many of us would have considered giving a spare appendage to see, the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con International on Saturday (live blogged on Marvel.com) confirmed two heavily rumored but unofficial pieces to the Marvel Cinematic Universe puzzle.

The first confirmation came at the end of the Age of Ultron clip, as actor Josh Brolin came out and was confirmed as Thanos. We’ll get our first taste of his work as the mad Titan next week, as he’s going to figure into Guardians of the Galaxy in some way.
That makes a good segue into the second revelation, which came via video as Guardians director James Gunn and Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt, appeared from London. They made Guardians of the Galaxy 2 official, confirming reports earlier in SDCC week that Gunn would return to write and direct a sequel.
That sequel also got a release date: July 28, 2017. That’s a fairly fast turnaround, but with everything trending up for the first film and Gunn not attached to any other movies, it makes sense to capitalize when Marvel has the opportunity to do so.
And while we don’t usually endorse this (plus panel attendees were made to shut off their devices before the final part of the panel), if someone wants to leak that Age of Ultron footage, we wouldn’t be upset.
