Happy Guardians Of The Galaxy Release Day!
By Nick Tylwalk
Technically, tomorrow is the official release day for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. However, as our own Christina Roberts discovered to her delight once we filled her in, many theaters are actually getting the ball rolling tonight, with showtimes (at least in my neck of the woods) as early as 7 pm.
That doesn’t make this an “official” holiday like Batman Day, but I’d say the first Marvel movie in years that isn’t a sequel or something bringing together characters we’ve already seen on-screen is a cause for celebration, wouldn’t you?
Not everyone is convinced, though. To the lady standing in front of me in line at the LCS yesterday who said she was unsure about Guardians because she wasn’t familiar with the characters, I say, “Don’t worry so much.” Just because Star-Lord and Groot aren’t household names yet doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy watching their adventures unfold.
And if you must know more about your heroes before you go, we can help with that. Heck, we’ve got all kinds of resources here at Bam Smack Pow so you enter the theater tonight (or later this weekend, we won’t judge) as a semi-expert:
- Here’s a list of recommended reading for folks who are brand new to the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics.
- Dean McKnight summarized the entire current volume of the Guardians’ ongoing comic series and reviewed the current issue.
- Roger Lee took a look at the first appearance of Rocket Raccoon, which is quite the story.
- Writer Dan Abnett, one of the godfathers of the team’s lineup, told us why the movie versions of the characters are faithful to their comics counterparts.
- The cast of the movie appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk a bit about the making of the film.
- If you like video games, you’ll find the Guardians in just about every title starring Marvel super heroes over the next few months.
There’s more too, as we’ve been
writing about the movie and the team plenty out of sheer excitement. Click on the tag at the bottom of this post and you’ll find everything we’ve been up to over the past few weeks.
Oh, and if you go to see the movie tonight, be sure and let us know what you thought.
