I found this fascinating article and audio discussion of the psychology of Batman: Assault on Arkham. This hour long discussion contains no spoilers so even if you have yet to see Assault on Arkham you can still enjoy this discussion.

"The Arkham Sessions is dedicated to the psychology of Batman, so it seems almost like an ethical duty to cover a movie about Arkham Asylum, Gotham City’s mental health facility for the “criminally insane.” In the newly released direct-to-video animated film Batman: Assault on Arkham, a highly-skilled group of assassins and outlaws are called together by Amanda Waller to take part in a risky — possibly life-threatening — mission to infiltrate Arkham Asylum."

This is an interesting discussion, and as a serious Batman fan I am always interested in learning more about the psychology of the Batman universe. It;s nice to hear what mental health professionals make of the volatile and abusive relationship of the Joker and Harley Quinn, and I will admit that I was surprised to learn that electroshock, or electroconvulsive (as it is known now) therapy was still in use. In most media it is depicted as a dangerous, torturous, and barbaric outdated treatment that is no longer in use.
