8. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

One of the top compliments you could pay a super hero video game is to say that it hooked people who didn’t care about comics at all. For my circle of friends, the first Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was that game when it first released, serving as the gateway drug to the Marvel Universe in much the same way as animated series or the recent movies have for other people.

Better still, there are enough varying facets to the gameplay that different people will find different things to like. I appreciated the RPG elements, while some of my buddies enjoyed the action more. It was without a doubt a great couch co-op game, something that is sadly becoming rarer and rarer in the days of easily accessible online gaming.

I might never split a pizza with friends while playing Ultimate Alliance again, but I’ll definitely think back fondly on the times that I did. Some people argue that the sequel was better, and while I like that one as well, the original still gets my nod here.
