Aquaman and the Others: Futures End #1

The Dead King leads the Others in a final assault on Atlantis to end Mera’s reign forever!

Spoiler-Free Reaction 

A short, straightforward story with very little surprises.  Although I enjoyed the all-out battle between Dead King’s army and the Others, it would’ve been better had there been a bit more plot development.  The art of Sean Chen and Mark Irwin definitely impresses here, as the action is well-rendered and characters are consistent in various scenes.  Overall, an adequate conclusion to the events in Aquaman: Futures End #1.

Spoilerific Plot Points

  • Aaron’s grandfather, the Operative, is killed by the Dead King.  But before he dies, the Operative gives Aaron a key.
  • Along with the key, Aaron is handed the Manacles of Power, the Globe of Transportation, the Shield of Life, and the Seal.  He attacks the Dead King, takes his scepter, and decapitates him.
  • No current tie in with Futures End.
