Rumor: Will Smith And Tom Hardy In The Running For Suicide Squad
By Nick Tylwalk
I can see that Warner Bros. and DC’s Suicide Squad is going to be the fun comic book movie for casting rumors for the forseeable future. Confirmed just yesterday for a 2016 release, the studio needs to get cracking on this flick about super villains forced to run dangerous missions for the government (at least if it sticks close to its source material), and with Warner’s CEO promising “A-list talent” in a presentation to investors, some big names are already flying around.

Earlier today it was Ryan Gosling mentioned in connection with Suicide Squad, but now Deadline chips in with two more names: Will Smith and Tom Hardy. That site is quoting sources telling it the duo is “close to signing on.”
Hardy is no stranger to DC super villainy on the big screen thanks to his role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, but moviegoers are accustomed to seeing Smith wear the white hat. Still, with his box office mojo arguably at its lowest ebb in quite some time, he’s probably savvy enough to hitch his wagon to the super hero movie train, and his participation might get some people who are otherwise unfamiliar with the property to at least put it on their radar.
I’d be shocked if the rumor mill doesn’t whip up more names for this one, especially since the movie is reportedly casting four main roles. Stay tuned …
