First Look: Mutants Rule NYC In X-Men & Avengers: AXIS #6

Well, this doesn’t sound good. Thanks to the Inversion that took place near the end of AXIS #3, many of the heroes of the Marvel Universe have been acting a big strangely. How else would you explain the X-Men siding with Apocalypse and taking over New York City?

The Avengers aren’t going to be much help, seeing as they’ve been affected too. That sets the scene for AXIS #6, where writer Rick Remender and artist Terry Dodson will bring the curtain down on Act II: Inversion and propel the event into Act III: New World Disorder. And that sounds like an apt name, given what is going on.

Marvel strikes a properly ominous tone with its official description of the issue:

"New York City now belongs to the mutants, taken over by those who once protected a world that hated and feared them. The Avengers as we know them are gone, twisted and corrupted. Battle lines will be drawn as friend and foe alike choose sides – and the battle for the survival begins."

Could the villains be some help in straightening things out? After all, some of them were tilted on their axes by the Inversion too, leading to significantly less dastardly behavior. Maybe that team of hastily assembled bad guys Magneto led earlier in the story will have to save the day again.

We’ll find out on November 19, when AXIS #6 hits stores and digital. For now, here’s a first look at some of Dodson’s art and variant cover by Valerio Schiti and Esad Ribic.
