BSP Roundtable: What We Expect And Hope To Hear At Marvel’s Tuesday Announcement

facebooktwitterreddit

Marvel has a movie-related announcement/press and fan shindig scheduled for Tuesday at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. And while Bam Smack Pow’s invitation may have been lost in the electronic mail (that can happen, right?), we’re still extremely interested in what’s going down.

To that end, we got a bunch of the BSP staffers together to solicit everyone’s ideas on what they think Marvel will announce and what they hope will come out of L.A. And by that, I mean I emailed everyone and asked them to give me some input, since we’re way too spread out to meet in one place.

Without further ado, here are our predictions and the things that would make us squeal with fanboy or fangirl glee, as applicable:

Christina Roberts:

Oh man, are they finally going to announce who’s playing Doctor Strange? Joaquin Phoenix? Matthew McConaughey? Benedict Cumberbatch? Elijah Wood? Daniel Radcliffe? Tom Hiddleston? Wait, scratch that last one… But seriously, I bet they’ll have an announcement for Doctor Strange as well as probably revealing some of the groundwork for Phase III since Phase II ends with Age of Ultron. They can’t keep us in the dark forever! Hydra will let out all their secrets! Nothing is safe!

Or, you know, if it leaks that they’re casting Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange before this article comes out … then it’s probably something about Phase III. Or how Tony Stark is going to be in every Marvel movie for the rest of forever because RDJ will never die.

Steve Lam:

What I THINK will happen:

  • Since Stan Lee confirmed that there will be a Black Panther movie, they will announce who’s going to play T’Challa / Black Panther.
  • Let’s address the elephant in the room: they may announce the adaptation of the Civil War storyline … and they will have Spider-Man make an appearance.
  • They will announce who will be playing Doctor Strange.
  • They’ve found their Luke Cage and it’s Terry Crews.

What I HOPE will happen:

  • In a special, glorious, trifecta unification of power, Marvel, Fox, and Sony have put aside their differences to bring a massive movie that involves: The Avengers, Spider-Man, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, and Guardians of the Galaxy (take your pick of whatever crossover event in publication history).
  • Iron Man 4 … need I say more?
  • There will be a She-Hulk movie.

Erik Sugay:

I think Marvel is just going to put movie names to those unknown release dates to one-up Warner Bros.’ recently announced DC Comics film schedule. It would be nice to know what they have planned beyond 2016, after all.

I hope Marvel, Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox work out some sort of deal so that Spider-Man and the X-Men can crossover into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A Civil War movie would work without Spider-Man but I think it would be great to follow the source material with the web-slinger caught in the middle. Besides, crossovers are awesome.

Frankie Koelle:

My prediction is that Marvel is possibly going to show us some more Ant-Man, announce some or possibly the entire lineup for Phase 3.

What I hope to hear is Inhumans, Guardians sequel, Captain America 3, and without a doubt I want to hear more about Ant-Man. It’s coming up next summer and it’s still a little foggy.

John McArthur:

What I expect:I think the most likely thing that happens in El Capitan Theatre tomorrow is Marvel puts names to the various planned movie premier dates that have been laid out for the next five years. The safest bet is that we get concrete dates for movies like Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Thor 3. Outside of these I could see a Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch movie, maybe even a Hawkeye/Black Widow movie.

What I hope:I think it would be awesome if Marvel announces that they have bought back the rights for Spider-Man. The addition of Spider-Man to Captain America 3’s Civil War plot might ease the minds of some skeptical fans. The only thing that could possibly be better than this would be if Marvel and 20th Century Fox decided to team up for an Avengers Vs. X-Men movie. I get that both of these are highly unlikely, but everybody’s got dreams right?

Aaron Speight:

My prediction is the Civil War storyline for Cap 3. This may just be me hoping because I wrote an article on it, but one can hope.

Nick Tylwalk:

The safe stuff first, eh? Okay, I’m almost positive Marvel is finally going to announce Doctor Strange, which we all know is coming. They’re likely going to give us the subtitle for Captain America 3, since they’ve been teasing that for a while. I also wouldn’t be shocked if they go one step further and explain a little more about how Civil War will play out over multiple films.

Now if I can let my wildest dreams run wild, I’d say I’m hoping for a Hawkeye solo film based on the Mat Fraction/David Aja run, a Thor 3 that really ups the ante with either Surtur or the Midgard Serpent, and some kind of teaser that the final battle against Thanos will involve the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy and the heroes from the Netflix shows, plus a few who haven’t debuted yet.

Will any of us be right? Check back later on Tuesday to find out.
