As Expected, Captain America 3 Means Civil War
By Nick Tylwalk
One of the myriad announcements made at the El Capitan Theatre on Tuesday about upcoming Marvel movies was also one of the most expected, though Marvel tried its best to disguise it.

Early in the event, the subtitle of the third Captain America movie was given as “Serpent Society.” That caught people off guard, because even though the society is a real group of Marvel villains and has clashed with Cap on numerous occasions, it’s not one that has been established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As it turned out, that was just a ruse to make the actual announcement more dramatic. The third solo outing for Chris Evans as Steve Rogers will be Captain America: Civil War. And given that the actual subtitle references a famous Marvel event that pits hero versus hero in an ideoloical and physical battle over whether folks with superhuman abilities should have to register with the government, it’s really not proper to call it a solo picture.
One other Avenger who we know will play a big part in the movie is Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, and both Evans and Downey were present at the event on Tuesday to promote the film. In the comics, these two heroes led the opposing sides, with Iron Man as the public face of the pro-registration heroes and Captain America leading the underground anti-registration movement, and it’s expected they will play the same parts on screen even though Marvel will no doubt come up with its own movie spin on the general storyline.
Captain America: Civil War will release on May 6, 2016.
