For everyone wondering when Marvel would get around to making a movie with a female super hero in the lead role, you’ll get your wish if you can just hang on until the summer of 2018.

That’s when Captain Marvel will fly into theaters, on July 6, 2018, to be exact. The Marvel event at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on Tuesday didn’t have too much information on the upcoming movie, except to confirm that this will be Carol Danvers in her current heroic guise.
Marvel had been hinting at both Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies, but announcing both of them at one time — as well as Inhumans, another property that has yet to make its way to the big screen — was a bold move. Phase Three will include nine movies in all, with Captain Marvel falling seventh in that order, right after the first part of Avengers: Infinity War, which will hit on May 4, 2018.
Could this mean that Danvers shows up in either that film or even earlier, like at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron? It wouldn’t be smart to bet against it, simply as a way of familiarizing audiences with the character before she takes flight on her own.
