Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 Coming Sooner Than Expected
By Nick Tylwalk
Marvel Studios may have blown fans’ minds with its impressive slate of Phase Three movie announcements Tuesday at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, but that doesn’t mean it forgot about its standout hit from Phase Two.

The Guardians of the Galaxy sequel that was quickly announced in the way of its runaway box office success this year will arrive a little sooner than originally thought. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (expect it to get a subtitle at some point) will hit theaters on May 5, 2017 instead of July 28, 2017.
The film’s original release date will now host a different Marvel Phase Three film, Thor: Ragnarok, instead. Director James Gunn and all of the main cast members are expected to return for the sequel.
A bigger question will be how Guardians 2 fits into the overall tapestry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will culminate in a two-part Avengers: Infinity War extravanganza in May 2018 and May 2019. Given that the Guardians have already encountered one of the Infinity Stones and indirectly run afoul of Thanos, they’re almost guaranteed to be involved in the final battle.
One thing’s for sure: though the hype right now might be over the new Marvel additions, the buzz for a second outing for Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and company is sure to be intense — and now it’ll get going a tiny bit earlier.
