Marvel Releases First Look At Guardians Of The Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex Alpha #1 Cover
By Nick Tylwalk
Comic book publishers, please take it easy on us humble bloggers. We only have so many characters to use in our title fields, and Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex Alpha #1 uses up all of them.

Nevertheless, this upcoming crossover between two of Marvel’s most popular teams should be a fun one. Written by Sam Humphries with art by Ed McGuinness, The Black Vortex spins out of threads Humphries has been playing with in Legendary Star-Lord.
We don’t know too much about the actual Black Vortex itself, except that it’s an artifact that can unlock the cosmic potential in anyone. As Marvel puts it, “Imagine the power that transformed Jean Grey into the Phoenix or Norin Radd into the Silver Surfer available to anyone, and in the hands of those who would use it for evil!”
Yeah, bad news. And some questionable characters are already on its trail, like Mr. Knife and Thanos’ son Thane.
“What happens when one person submits to the Black Vortex and becomes a titan of the cosmos?” Humphries said in an interview with Marvel.com. “What happens when a whole team does it. Or a whole planet? But against the epic scale, we’re grounding the story in the deeply personal conflict each character will go through just by encountering the Black Vortex.”
The crossover will involve Guardians of the Galaxy, Legendary Star-Lord, All-New X-Men, Captain Marvel, Nova, Cyclops and more books before it’s done. But your trip to discover the Black Vortex begins with the Alpha issue due out in February, and you can see the cover for that one right here.
