From Wrestling To Comics: CM Punk To Write Thor Annual #1
By Nick Tylwalk
When you’ve got a super popular pro wrestler like CM Punk who’s known to be a huge comics fan, then add in the fact that he’s not currently wrestling, there’s only one logical course of action: get the man to write some comics.

Marvel is doing just that, tapping the self-proclaimed “Greatest in the World” and former WWE champion to try his hand at writing with Thor Annual #1, which comes out next February. Punk will team with artist Rob Guillory, known for his work as co-creator of Image’s Chew, in what will mark the Marvel debut for both men.
Though he’ll be writing a story about the former God of Thunder, now known as Thor Odinson, Punk’s tale will still tie in thematically with the current Thor series, as it will go back to his younger days when he hadn’t yet proven himself worthy of his eventual status.
As Punk told Marvel.com:
"[T]he idea was, let’s do a story about young Thor as kind of a brash, bratty teenager who’s like, ‘I’m totally worthy of this hammer. My dad’s full of [expletive]. I don’t know why I’m not “worthy” of the hammer. Look at all this cool stuff I did.’ And it’s more or less like a drinking story. He’s gonna be sitting around with a few choice characters from the Marvel Universe, and they’re all gonna be drinking, and Thor’s gonna basically be complaining about essentially why his dad won’t give him the keys to the car."
Punk also said that his dream gig wasn’t writing Ben Grimm, as you might expect, but Frank Castle. Marvel, please give this man an arc on Punisher. Considering how fans still chant for him on WWE programming, I’m guessing that will be money in the bank — no pun intended.
