Marvel Dreams Up First Ever Shrinking Variant For Ant-Man #1
By Nick Tylwalk
Does Marvel still call itself the House of Ideas? Because this one is a doozy: a shrinking variant cover for Ant-Man #1 that is dosed with real life Pym particles and will shrink so you can …

What’s that? There’s no such thing as Pym particles and the cover doesn’t actually shrink? Bummer.
The idea is still a cool one, as each copy of the Ant-Man #1 Shrinking Variant will be unique, as the cover will feature Scott Lang at full size and his smallest and all points in-between. My guess is that McGuinness will only have to draw Ant-Man once and computers will do the shrinking, but it is fun to think that Marvel is going to be like, “Sorry Ed, retailers ordered 5,739 of these, so that’s how many drawings we need!”
“This is completely unlike any cover we’ve ever attempted,” Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel said in a statement. “We’ve even had to utilize new technologies to make it happen. Each variant is completely unique. Each and every cover will feature a different sized Ant-Man. No two are identical!”
New technologies, eh? Maybe Pym particles are involved after all!
Jokes aside, I shamefully regret to inform you that I don’t have the most important information of all about this variant, which is how to make sure you can get one. Upcoming Diamond Dailies and Marvel.com are supposed to have more information soon, but my advice is just to bug the counter folks politely at your LCS until they give in and tell you.
Ant-Man #1 is by Nick Spencer and Ramon Rosanas, and it arrives in stores and on digital on January 7, the first new comic book day of 2015.
