Report: Marc Silvestri To Draw Batman Book In 2015
By Nick Tylwalk
There aren’t all that many Sting moments left in super hero comics. And by that I mean situations where an artist who made his name at other companies works for the one he hasn’t to this point, sort of like the way professional wrestler and WCW stalwart Sting finally showed up in WWE last month. John Romita Jr. gave us one earlier this year when he went to DC, and Bleeding Cool’s Rich Johnston suggests another one might be on the way in 2015.

According to Johnston, Marc Silvestri is going to handle the art on an ongoing Batman title sometime next year. The Image co-founder wouldn’t be a total DC newcomer, as he pencilled an issue of Batman Black and White back in 1996 (along with other non-super hero work before that), but he’s known for his X-Men work at Marvel and his creator-owned properties.
Silvestri would definitely make a splash as a successor to Greg Capullo on Batman, but Johnston thinks that’s unlikely since Capullo and writer Scott Snyder have plans to stick around for the near future. It’s less certain how long Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato are going to be on Detective Comics, and there are currently more Batman books than ever depending on how far one wishes to stretch the definition. For instance, wouldn’t Arkham Manor count as a “Batman book?”
It’ll be strange but cool if this report turns out to be true, so keep an eye on the post-Convergence solicitations, and don’t be surprised if Mr. Top Cow is handling some of the adventures of the Dark Knight.
