Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2, Episode 10 Synopsis – What They Become

Last season, it took some time for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to really step on the gas. The show hasn’t needed a movie tie-in to push the accelerator this year, as a bunch of subplots began to converge last week. The Grant Ward, Skye and hidden city threads all got woven together, and the midseason finale is promising to be an explosive one.

More from TV

From the promotional material that’s been released for “What They Become,” it’s clear that the reunion between Skye and her lunatic dad is going to be a big focus. She didn’t necessarily want it to happen, but it’s unavoidable thanks to Ward, and it’ll hopefully give us some answers about her true nature. Is she part Kree as it appears?

There’s no mention of the blue-skinned Marvel aliens in ABC’s official synopsis, but they’ve been looming over this entire season, so you can almost guarantee their legacy is going to play a part in the confrontation between S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra. Here’s the network’s description of the midseason finale:

"Coulson and Whitehall’s forces meet in an explosive confrontation that dramatically alters everyone’s fates. Meanwhile, Skye discovers shocking secrets about her past."

Should it really be that shocking, though? Skye is pretty smart, so it must have at least occurred to her that one of the reasons she was able to handle the GH.325 treatment with no side effects is that she’s part whatever the alien is. Maybe she just doesn’t want to believe the rantings of Raina, which is perfectly understandable.

Oh, and I suppose we still need to learn the fate of Mac and find out if Hydra blew up the Bus. Those are pretty important developments as well. I look forward to whatever cliffhangers the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. team has cooked up for us to ponder while Agent Carter takes its place for a few months. Tune in Tuesday at 9 pm on ABC to learn what those might be, and hop back here to Bam Smack Pow on Wednesday morning to read Christina Roberts’ take on “What They Become.”
