More Details Revealed For The Marvel Experience

Remember the old comic book covers that said something like, “Who is … what is … [insert name here]?” That’s kind of how I felt about the Marvel Experience when it was first announced back in October.

It sounded cool enough, as it’s a traveling show intended for adults, and it sure packed a lot of technological buzzwords into its descriptions, 3D, 4D, motion simulators, augmented reality, etc.

That’s still not quite enough to tel me know what it’s all about, and darn dure not enough for me to explain it to other people. Things cleared up just a little bit today thanks to USA Today, which talked to Hero Ventures, the company producing the Marvel Experience about the show.

Here are some takeaways:

  • The entire show takes up 140,000 square feet and features seven interlocking domes.
  • Interactive games, augmented reality, virtual reality and special 360-degree lighting and sound all play a part in the attractions.
  • At least one of the domes will have a ride designed by MediaMation with tilting seats, wind and water spray effects.

So now I can at least make an educated guess that there will be games, a ride and 3D and/or 360-degree videos. It sounds like some parts will be passive and others will be more participatory, but all of them will immerse you in Marvel stories. How it all comes together … well, that’s still one of my biggest questions.

Fortunately, we won’t have long to wait until people can report back on the Marvel Experience in person. The tour begins in Phoenix on December 19, so if anyone reading in Arizona wants to help out with a post in a few weeks, hit us up on Twitter or Facebook and let us know.
