Less Lanterns: GLC, Red Lanterns Among 13 DC Comics Series Ending In March
By Nick Tylwalk
Maybe DC Comics is going to name its super hero line “The New 39” after Convergence ends.

Okay, that was a bad attempt at humor, as the line hasn’t been consisted of exactly 52 titles for quite some time. Still, the beginning of Convergence in March also marks the end for a number of ongoing books, as the full DC solicitations for that month revealed.
Most notable among the losses are all of the Green Lantern books except for Green Lantern and Sinestro. Green Lantern Corps, Red Lanterns and Green Lantern: New Guardians will all close up shop in March with their #40 issues.
So will Swamp Thing and Batwoman, two series that were New 52 launch titles. The other titles getting canceled are:
- Aquaman and the Others
- Arkham Manor (already?)
- Infinity Man and the Forever People
- Klarion
- Secret Origins
- Star Spangled War Stories Featuring G.I. Zombie
- Trinity of Sin
- Worlds’ Finest
DC told Comic Book Resources that the cancellations don’t “necessarily mean that the characters associated with them are going away. On the contrary, be on the lookout for these characters to play key, important roles in new and ongoing titles.” That’s kind of a standard line to give to avoid mass griping by fans of the heroes whose books are disappearing, and it makes one wonder what the deal is with the Lanterns.
It’s difficult for one series to give Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner all enough screen time, so the “status quo change” coming up in Green Lantern #40, also on sale in March, looms ominously over their future. The pendulum in the Green Lantern mythos always swings back and forth between tons of ring-slingers and barely any at all, so don’t be shocked if we’re headed in the latter direction come springtime.
