Rumor: Freeman, Nighy, Watanabe For Ancient One In Doctor Strange
By Nick Tylwalk
Even though he’s great in everything and clearly has a voice to fit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe somewhere, we haven’t seen Morgan Freeman in a Marvel super hero movie yet. But according to the Latino Review, that might change in Doctor Strange.

The well-connected site says its sources are saying Freeman is among a trio of actors approached to play the Ancient One in Doctor Strange. The other contenders reportedly include Bill Nighy and Ken Watanabe,a nd while either would be an excellent choice to portray the man who helps Stephen Strange on his journey to become the Sorcerer Supreme, I’d really like to see Freeman in the role.
On a related note, considering the earlier rumors that Marvel was dead set against Doctor Strange as an origin tale, just the idea that the studio would look for a fairly big name to cast as the Ancient One suggests … well, an origin story. Or at the very least, it figures to be set fairly early in Strange’s career, unless he’ll simply be consulting with Ancient One in his astral form or something. Maybe it’s Marvel’s version of a dead Jedi.
In any case, considering how long it took to get Benedict Cumberbatch into the title role, it’s good to hear anything about the secondary parts. Now about that villain …
