Sorry Hiddlestoners: Neil Gaiman Says He Was Joking About Tom Hiddleston As Sandman

Here’s how to get the internet fired up: give an interview saying that the man whose won so many hearts by playing Loki in Marvel’s movies would be the perfect choice to star as Morpheus in the movie version of Sandman.

Neil Gaiman did exactly that earlier this week, talking to Radio Times about how the Sandman adpatation is coming along. When talk inevitably turned to who we might see as Dream of the Endless, Gaiman bemoaned the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch was unavailable — seeing as he’s already got another comic book movie on his plate — but did say he had a good alternative in mind:

"Then again, Tom Hiddleston is still out there! And the truth is, as far as I’m concerned, anybody who sounds English with great cheekbones can probably pull it off."

Alas, for all the Hiddlestoners out there (and I know you are legion), his problem with availability would be pretty similar, seeing as he’s assured of playing a big role in Marvel’s upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. I mean, unless you want them to recast Loki …

Gaiman also put a stop to the speculation by taking to Twitter to confirm that he was, in fact, just kidding:

So who would make a good Morpheus? We’re open to your ideas.
