First Look: The Avengers Unity Squad Is Reforged In Uncanny Avengers #1
By Nick Tylwalk
Well, I was hoping we’d get individual character teasers for every member of the new Uncanny Avengers team, but Marvel decided to just skip to the preview today.

The original Avengers Unity Squad was designed to bridge the gap between Marvel’s two premier teams, the Avengers and X-Men, and it was on its way to doing just that until AXIS happened. With team leader Havok one of the characters who remained inverted at the end of that story, he’s obviously no longer in the picture. Also, Wolverine is dead, Wasp is missing and Steve Rogers is an old man. So for the team to continue, it’s going to need some new blood.
That’s exactly what Rick Remender and Daniel Acuna are giving it. Holdovers Scarlet Witch and Rogue will be joined by Quicksilver, Vision, Brother Voodoo, new Captain America Sam Wilson and the inverted Sabretooth (meaning he’s a hero now). They’ve also got a brand new mission to kick things off, investigating the mysteries of Counter-Earth. There have been several planets to go by that name in Marvel Comics, but this one appears to be more important than ever. At least Marvel is selling it that way in its official description of the new #1 issue:
"What is Counter-Earth? What secrets does it hold? An unlikely alliance of Avengers & X-Men will form, seeking answers. Only what they find will in all likelihood destroy the lives of two of its own members."
Based on the events of AXIS and the teasers we’ve seen so far, smart money says those members are Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. One of the Avengers’ oldest enemies is also supposed to be involved, and since we just saw Kang in the previous volume of Uncanny Avengers and Ultron has the late spring/early summer already staked out, we’ll have to see exactly who that might be.
Uncanny Avengers #1 will answer that question on January 28, but we’ve got a first look right now, along with variant covers by Acuna, Gabrielle Dell’Otto and Skottie Young. Scroll down and enjoy!
