CW Prez Wants Arrow And The Flash Crossover Every Year

Most of the news about The Flash and Arrow these days is not that surprising. When you find out that both shows have been renewed, or that there have been early discussions about an Atom spin-off, you first reaction is pretty much, “Well, yeah, those are the two best things The CW has going for it right now!”

That also means that since the first crossover between the two DC super hero shows was a success, it’s only natural that the network would consider doing another one next season. And heck, why not every season, right?

That’s what Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, has in mind. He recently talked to The Hollywood Reporter about his network’s success, which has largely been spurred by The Flash and Arrow. Those two series have helped The CW to gain in total viewers at a time when network TV in general is trending the other way, and they’ve helped diversify its audience: though in the opposite direction from its competitors, as 70 percent of The CW’s viewers were female prior to this fall.

So to keep up that trend, how about a crossover on a regular basis? Here’s what THR said about that possibility:

"Scoring ratings pay dirt with its Arrow and The Flash crossover, Pedowitz said he has plans to make it an annual event for the fourth quarter every season."

Once a year seems right to me. Any more than that and the crossovers wouldn’t feel as special. Any less and the fans would most likely get antsy, to say nothing of the missed opportunity it would be for The CW to capitalize on having their two most marketable characters together.

What will be interesting is if the Atom or any other DC heroes get their own shows, it could make for more than two-part crossovers. Who’s ready for a four-night event? Maybe in another season or two …
