  • Who might be in the running for director?

According to Latino Review, there are two candidates. In one corner, we’ve got Jeff Nichols, most famous for … well, probably Mud, though he does have another movie, Midnight Special, coming out this year. Someone who edited his Wikipedia page must be feeling really confident, as he’s already listed as the director of Aquaman there.

The other name LR says we should be watching is Noam Murro, who’s already familiar with super heroics as he made 300: Rise of an Empire into more of a money-maker than anyone could have predicted.

Neither man has many directing credits under his belt, but some of Marvel’s directors didn’t either, and most of their movies came out just fine. Warner Bros. doesn’t necessarily need a big name to make a good Aquaman movie.

  • Could a Star Trek doctor (and Judge Dredd!) be the villain?

That same Latino Review report claims Warner is waiting for Star Trek 3 to hurry up and finish so it can have Karl Urban in “an unspecified supporting role, possibly the villain.” Which villain? Well, we don’t know that yet, as LR says two scripts are kicking around.

My guess would be Black Manta, the only villain Aquaman has who’s even close to iconic (thanks, Super Friends!). Ocean Master could work too, but that’s about it, at least for a first movie.

Aquman isn’t due until 2018, so there’s time to figure this stuff out, and no doubt more waves of rumors and reports before it’s all finalized.
