Princess Leia found herself in exactly that situation during the original Star Wars trilogy, throwing herself into the battle against the Empire even after seeing her home world of Alderaan destroyed. That takes a hero with an extraordinary amount of inner strength, which is what writer Mark Waid and artist Terry Dodson will explore in Princess Leia #1.
“How does she really cope with losing her entire world once the events around that loss have calmed down somewhat?” Waid said in a recent interview with Marvel.com “Does she choose to be a princess of nothing – or does she set out to rebuild her heritage and civilization?”
“Princess of nothing” doesn’t sound too catchy, so rebuild it is! Like the other new Marvel Star Wars comics, Princess Leia is set in-between episodes IV and V of the original saga, helping to shed new light on a universally familiar story.
We’ve got a first look at some of Dodson’s interior pages, as well as a few of the variant covers by the likes of John Cassaday, Alex Ross and Skottie Young (though there are a bunch more). Look for Princess Leia #1 wherever you get your comics on March 4.
