Sony Already Down To Shortlist For New Spider-Man?
By Nick Tylwalk
Speculating about which young actor might get the call to play Spider-Man in upcoming Marvel and Sony movies is a big part of the fun, but it appears Sony may already have its heart set on a few people to call in.

According to Variety, a decision won’t be made until there’s a director in place for the next Spider-Man movie, but sources are already saying several actors are under consideration. Let’s run them down:
- Dylan O’Brien: A 23-year old from New York City, O’Brien has been doing TV and film work since 2011. His first notable role was as “Stiles” Stilinski on MTV’s Teen Wolf series, but his most prominent turn was as the lead in The Maze Runner. He recently finished filming the sequel, The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials, which will hit theaters in September.
- Logan Lerman: Also 23, Lerman is a lot more experienced, with movie credits going back to 2000. Chances are you’ve seen him in something: either playing Percy Jackson in the series of movies that sports that character’s name, or in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Noah or Fury.
Both O’Brien and Lerman would fit the supposed desire Sony has to go “much younger” than the outgoing Andrew Garfield, and they could plausibly play a high school-aged Peter Parker, at least in the way Hollywood has always used 20-somethings to play high schoolers. However, Variety also says Sony hasn’t even made up its mind about whether Spider-Man is going to be Parker or Miles Morales, which is obviously a big decision that needs to be made first.
I’d say just about any actor of note between the ages of 17 and 25 should be bugging his agent right now, because with Spidey back in Marvel’s toy box, at least in part, this could be a role that slingshots the lucky winner to superstardom.
