Are There Going To Be Any Ongoing X-Men Comics After May?

If you checked out the Marvel solicitations for May that were released earlier today, you’ve no doubt been caught up in going through the various Secret Wars tie-ins and spin-offs. But there’s something else going on that’s worth wondering about: what’s going on with the X-Men?

Not counting the solo books like Storm and Cyclops and the weekly Wolverines, there are only two X-Men titles solicited for May: Uncanny X-Men #600 and Uncanny X-Men #35. IGN points out that this means that by the time June rolls around, pretty much all of the current X-Men books will be wrapped up.

So what gives? Possibly nothing, as Secret Wars is throwing a big monkey wrench into the entire line of Marvel super hero comics. The X-Men are prominently featured on Battleworld, including a land where Inferno never ended, one ruled by Sentinels and another region where the Claremont/Lee X-Men of the 90s are apparently still in full effect. It’s not like Marvel is taking its mutants off the board altogether.

Still, for the people who are convinced that Marvel cancelled the Fantastic Four ongoing comic series in order to help undermine Fox’s movie, there’s at least some ammo to support a theory that the same thing is going on with the X-Men. By June, all these things could be true:

  • Wolverine and Deadpool, two of the most popular mutant heroes, will both still be dead.
  • The X-Men won’t have any ongoing team books.
  • Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver won’t be mutants any more.

If Marvel announces a big X-Men relaunch coming out of Secret Wars, which is entirely possible, then there’s nothing to worry about for X-fans. Until then, it’s enough to make you wonder, at least a little.
