Check Out Infinity Gauntlet #1 … Just Not The One You Know
By Nick Tylwalk
Just in case you were concerned that Marvel was just going to tell all of its classic stories all over again during the new Secret Wars, the previews that have been released so far should put those fears to rest. The Infinity Gauntlet is one of my favorite comic events of all time, but I’m looking forward to seeing something new in Infinity Gauntlet #1 — and that’s exactly what Gerry Duggan and Dustin Weaver look like they have in mind.

Set in New Xandar, a region in the southern hemisphere of the new Battleworld, Infinity Gauntlet #1 features Anwen Bakian and her family. Once a pleasant place to live, New Xandar is now a post-apocalyptic mess after an invasion of giant insects from a neighboring zone. After the mom left to try joining the Nova Corps, the rest of the family was left to try to figure out a way to survive.
When Anwen finds a mysterious and powerful stone, it might solve their problems … except that Thanos wants it too. Anyone want to bet me it’s one of the Infinity Gems?
“Editor Nick Lowe had discussed a family of Novas, and Dustin had some pretty spectacular ideas on the way in the door,” Duggan said in an interview with Marvel.com. “It’s a unique opportunity to showcase a family of survivors dealing with an alien invasion that was devastatingly successful.”
Sounds pretty crazy and a lot different. Take a look at some of Weaver’s concept art below, and look for Infinity Gauntlet #1, a Secret Wars Warzones tie-in, to go on sale in May.
