Relive The Original Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars In Audiobook Form
By Nick Tylwalk
With a new Secret Wars just around the corner, you can go back and revisit the original 1984 series in several different ways. A print version is always good, as the series has been collected several times. Digital is always an option as well. But allow me to throw a third choice into the mix: how about an audiobook?

That’s not a hypothetical question, as Marvel has teamed up with GraphicAudio for an audiobook version called Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars. Written by Alex Irvine, this 7-hour audio production brings the classic event series to life just the way you remember it, with the mysterious Beyonder gathering the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men along with some of their greatest foes on a composite planet called Battleworld. He wanted them to fight to the death with the winners getting their greatest desires, but most of the participants had other plans — especially Doctor Doom!
Lorraine Cink, host of Marvel’s The Watcher web series, even got in on the action. As she and her crew filmed a behind-the-scenes segment at GraphicAudio’s Maryland headquarters, they got to record some lines that made it into the final version. Hopefully one of them got to voice Klaw or the Lizard, because they had some of the most memorable dialogue in the series.
In any case, the Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars audiobook costs $13.99 as a download and $19.99 on audio CD, and is available now, either through the GraphicAudio website or the company’s free iOS or Android apps. If you don’t have time to read the original while preparing for the new, this might be a worthy alternative.
