First Look: Race For Your Life In Ghost Racers #1

There’s some cool stuff coming down the pike from Marvel once Secret Wars rolls around, and then there are some books that just look crazy, in a good way.

Ghost Racers #1, a Secret Wars Battleworld title, is firmly in the latter category. It has Robbie Reyes, the current Ghost Rider, as a main character. But it also has previous people to hold the mantle, though not necessarily exactly as we might remember them. Place them all into the “anything goes” cauldron of Battleworld, and … well, here’s how Marvel is describing it:

"Welcome to the scorching hot track of the most popular arena on Battleworld – for the one and only spectacle known as the GHOST RACES! Enslaved and bound to the arena, cursed souls race at the speed of sin – anything and everything goes. The only rule? No rules! Friendships, loyalties and family bonds will be tested. All in the name of the top prize. Win the Ghost Races – earn temporary freedom from the Arena. But what happens to the unlucky and unholy losers?"

That sounds pretty intense, and the art by Juan Gedeon is impressive.

“The designs from Juan Gedeon are incredible,” senior editor Mark Paniccia said in a press release. “The Riders are recognizable but we’ve pushed them to the extreme and that’s what’s getting everyone around the office, the creators working on this — and the few people who’ve seen sneak peeks — so excited. These are such wicked twists on Johnny, Danny, Alejandra and more you’ll lose your @%$#. You’ve never seen GHOST RIDERS like this before!”

Writer Felipe Smith joins Gedeon on Ghost Racers #1, and while you’ll have to wait until May for the final package, you can see some of the components right here. Racers, start your engines!
