First Look: Spiral Explodes In Amazing Spider-Man #16.1
By Nick Tylwalk
Spider-Verse posed a threat to every spider-powered character in every universe. Does that mean that Peter Parker is going to be able to relax now that it’s over?

Um, no. Writer Gerry Conway and artist Carlo Barberi are ready to plunge Spider-Man into a more street level but no less dangerous tale in the “Spiral” arc that kicks off in Amazing Spider-Man #16.1. Ever since the Kingpin was deposed, there’s been a vacuum in the New York City underworld, one that multiple parties are trying to fill. Hammerhead, Tombstone, the Circus of Crime, Mr. Negative and Black Cat are all making a play for power, and that could be quite unfortunate for anyone caught in the crossfire.
Spidey wants to make sure he puts a stop to it, but his efforts are complicated by the Wraith, the alter ego of police captain Yuri Watanabe. It sure seems like the Wraith’s methods might not quite line up with those of the web-slinger, which only makes the situation that much more complicated.
We’ve got a first look at Spider-Man and the Wraith in action, perhaps as grudging partners, below, plus a variant cover by Simone Bianchi. Look for Amazing Spider-Man #16.1 to hit stores and digital on March 18, with “Spiral” playing out monthly in the “decimal point” issues of Amazing Spider-Man after that.
