Is The CW Readying An Arrow/Flash, DC Super Hero Spinoff Show?

It’s like The CW is reading our posts or something, since we suggested not that long ago that the network already had enough super heroes for its own Justice League of sorts. More likely, it’s just a case of great minds thinking alike, as Deadline is reporting that The CW is developing a super hero team-up show that would feature characters from Arrow and The Flash.

That’s really no surprise, as the two DC shows it already has are its top-rated fare. What could raise an eyebrow or two are the actors allegedly attached to the show: Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Wentworth Miller and Caity Lotz.

Let’s take them one by one:

  • Routh is the easy one. Fans have been wondering if perhaps the Atom was being positioned for his own spinoff, and I think he’d work even better in a group than trying to carry a show on his own.
  • Deadline says that Garber would continue as Dr. Martin Stein, who we know is one half of Firestorm. So why no mention of Ronnie Raymond? Is it just that actor Robbie Amell isn’t on-board with the project yet? It would be strange indeed for Firestorm to be left out.
  • Miller is a great actor, and the report says he’d continue to be Captain Cold. In the comics, there’s some precedent for Leonard Snart to fight ont he side of the angels when it suits his purposes, as it does in current DC comics. It’s just that we haven’t seen any signs of that from his TV counterpart, so this would make for an abrupt change from the calculating crook we’ve seen so far.
  • As Deadline points out, Lotz’s Sara Lance is dead. We saw her take arrows to the gut, and I’m pretty sure we even saw her buried. So if she’s in, she’d almost have to be playing someone else. As the report also references three DC super heroes who haven’t been on TV before, there’s really no lack of options for the actress. I just think it will be a little weird for fans of Arrow.

It would also be quite easy for Arrow or the Flash to drop in for additional crossovers, getting us pretty close to that hypothetical TV Justice League we talked about before, though I’m guessing Warner Bros. would prefer that name not to be attached with the movie coming down the road soon. I’m totally okay with this if it turns into a reality, and since it sounds like it could hit the CW schedule by the middle of next season, I’m willing to give the network another hour of my life each week.
